An Island Escape Reimagined
When Marie-Louise Sciò, creative force behind the renowned Pellicano Hotels, took ownership of Mezzatorre in December 2018, she brought her signature blend of elegance and playfulness to Ischia’s rugged coastline.
In just four months, she transformed this historic property at the northwestern tip of the island into a dazzling retreat adored by global travelers. With her keen Italian eye for style and beauty, Sciò has created a destination that feels both glamorous and inviting—a place where luxury is infused with effortless charm.

A Harmonious Blend of History and Modernity
Originally built as an Aragonese watchtower between the 16th and 17th centuries, Mezzatorre’s dramatic setting requires no embellishment. Perched on a cliff overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, the hotel offers panoramic views that feel almost cinematic.
While the structure’s historic character has been preserved, Sciò’s renovations have breathed fresh life into its interiors. The rooms and suites, split between the main building and a charming park cottage, feature bright, airy palettes, retro-inspired touches, and exquisite Italian tiles that nod to the island’s heritage.
Dining as a Visual and Culinary Feast
The hotel’s culinary offerings are as unforgettable as its setting. La Torre, the fine dining restaurant, showcases Italian cuisine elevated to an art form. Sciò’s attention to detail is evident here too, with Pierre Frey’s sophisticated wall coverings adding visual splendor to every meal.
Dining on the terrace while the sun sets over the sea was one of the highlights of my stay, as was sampling the creations of the talented kitchen team she assembled. For more casual fare, the second restaurant delivers equally memorable flavors with a relaxed ambiance.
A Wellness Haven in a Private Paradise
Mezzatorre’s spa, fed by the hotel’s own thermal spring, is a true sanctuary. Formerly clinical in its design, it has been transformed into a serene wellness retreat where treatments feel as indulgent as the views.
The outdoor pool, shaded by chic designer parasols, are an idyllic place to soak up the Mediterranean sun. For a touch of adventure, the hotel’s private bay, carved into the rocks, offers the perfect spot for a refreshing swim in crystal-clear waters.
A Setting Straight Out of a Film
Beyond the luxurious amenities, Mezzatorre’s natural surroundings are nothing short of magical. Guests can wander through aromatic pine woods or take in the distant silhouette of Villa Colombaia, once home to acclaimed director Luchino Visconti. It’s easy to see why the hotel feels like a film set—every corner offers breathtaking vistas and a sense of timeless romance.
A Seamless Arrival
Reaching Mezzatorre is part of the adventure. With Naples as the nearest international airport, the hotel’s team ensures the journey is smooth, arranging transfers to Molo Beverello for a scenic ferry ride to Ischia. From there, a short drive brings you to the hotel’s secluded haven.
A Gem That Captures the Spirit of Ischia
Mezzatorre is a rare find—a property that combines historical grandeur with modern luxury, all while celebrating the natural beauty of Ischia. During my stay, I was captivated by its effortless blend of elegance and warmth.
Whether it’s the dramatic sea views, the exquisite dining, or the tranquil spa, every moment here feels like an invitation to slow down and savor life. For those seeking an escape that balances refinement with relaxation, Mezzatorre is an experience not to be missed.
